Why you won’t want to miss SCC7

With an array of new features on offer, including an entire year’s worth of CPD / CD points, a fundraising element, awards and much, much more, the 7th Specsavers Clinical Conference (SCC7) has something for everyone, whether you’re a returning regular or attending the event for the first time.

The annual Specsavers Clinical Conference has become one of the most well-attended professional development events in the optometry calendar. This year, it will take place from 8 to 9 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and with more than 700 delegates already registered, spaces are running out fast.

Here are just some of the reasons why you won’t want to miss out on the biggest Specsavers clinical event in Australia and New Zealand:

More clinical content – The Saturday program has been extended from a half day to a full day program this year, with even more clinical sessions available to delegates. This, combined with the provision of three CPD / CD articles – which will be made available to delegates and store teams in September, October and November by SCC7’s Platinum Sponsors – as well as the addition of brief, topical ‘Fringe Talks’ during the lunch breaks, brings the number of CPD / CD points on offer to more than 37.5 CPD (AU) and 12.5 CD (NZ) points.

World-class speakers – As in previous years, SCC7 will feature a speaker program of leading ophthalmologists and experts in their field, with four one-hour sessions of clinical content on the Saturday and six one-hour sessions on the Sunday. Topics will include glaucoma identification, red eye, corneal lesions and ophthalmic signs of systemic disease, among others.

Extended exhibition – While in previous years, the exhibition was only open on the Sunday, SCC7 will feature an extended exhibition held across both days of the event. More than 20 exhibitors will be on the floor ready to talk to delegates about the support Specsavers offers, the new technology available, and the depth of Specsavers’ relationships with sponsors and other eye health stakeholders.

New fundraising element – In response to popular demand, Specsavers is re-introducing a fundraising element to SCC, with this year’s fundraising partner being Lions Outback Vision in Western Australia. Established in 2010, Lions Outback Vision is a small team of eye health professionals that are firmly committed to improving the eye health of rural, remote and indigenous Australians throughout the Pilbara, Kimberley, Goldfields, Midwest and Great Southern regions of Western Australia. Welcome dinner – A new ‘SCC Welcome Dinner’ will replace the traditional cocktail and canapés event on the Saturday night. Hosted gratis by Specsavers, the dinner will be held at the National Gallery of Victoria on St Kilda Road in the heart of the Melbourne CBD for an elegant evening of networking.

Clinical excellence awards – At the SCC Welcome Dinner, two very special new awards will be presented – the Doug Perkins Medal for Australia and the Doug Perkins Medal for New Zealand. These medals will be awarded to Specsavers stores that have demonstrated clinical excellence against a number of criteria, and who are making significant contributions towards Specsavers’ ‘Transforming Eye Health’ mission.
