CPD: The surgical management of glaucoma (AU 2C, NZ 0.5CD)

This CPD course examines how chronic open-angle glaucoma can be managed if topical therapies fail to reduce the intraocular pressure to acceptable levels, or if there are issues with adherence, side effects and/or allergies to the medical treatments.

The various options available in the hospital eye service are detailed, including laser, minimally invasive surgery and surgical options.

The course also considers the management of closed-angle glaucoma.

New Zealand: 0.5 CD points, accredited to 31 October 2020

Learning objectives

  1. Optometrists will have enhanced understanding of the surgical management of glaucoma.
  2. Optometrists will have a greater understanding of issues with adherence, side effects and or allergies to the medical treatments.
  3. Optometrists will understand the various options available in the hospital eye service, including laser, minimally invasive surgery and surgical options.
